DIY Solar Lantern

Hello and welcome to our first DIY post!

Our largest bill other than rent tends to be electric, so I have been looking for ways to cut down.

During the summer months, we average $160 per month on our electric bill.  We live in a pretty hot climate, so cooling is a must.  Something is always going on at our house during the day that requires an electronic, so I was having a hard time cutting back.  This jam had me stumped, because to reach our goal of sustainability, this level of electric use is not cutting it.

So I decided to start small.  I found a string of tiny lights for $2 with a little solar box.  I get super excited when I see solar for so cheap.  I’ve even heard that my favorite place (the Dollar Tree) now has solar stakes!
You can find a 6 pack here:
Solar Mason Jar Lid Lights, 6 Pack 20 Led String Fairy Star Firefly Jar Lids Lights,6 Hangers included(Jars Not Included), Best for Mason Jar Decor,Patio Garden Decor Solar Laterns Table Light

Now this DIY is super simple.  All I did was shove this awesome little strand of lights I affectionately refer to as fairy lights into a mason jar.  Done!

No batteries to replace.  Self charging.  These babies will last as long as the hardware itself.  A super plus?  They are cute and do not take away from but add to the ambiance.  We use them to light our patio table, hang out with a game or as a night light.  For as small as they are, they truly do put off some light and charm!
